M Rancho Santa Fe Estate Is the Week’s Most Expensive New Listing

A contemporary “world-class” estate in Rancho Santa Fe, CA, listed for $45 million, is this week’s most expensive new listing on realtor.com®.

Seven years in the making, the modern design by architect Guy Dreier incorporates concrete, glass, and steel, and is surrounded by a river rock water feature, as well as a lap pool. Slabs of granite grace the chef’s kitchen. Travertine is under foot. The six bedroom, 11-bath property spans 22,500 square feet on a 22.22 acre lot, with 11 additional acres available.

“It’s the most exquisite home. This one is just beyond compare. I’ve never seen anything like it,” says listing agent Nancy Jo Dixon, with Pacific Sotheby’s International Realty.

The owner purchased the property in 2000. The home on the land, previously inhabited by San Diego Chargers owner Gene Klein, was torn down to build a completely new estate. The result is a home that’s self-sustaining, and includes solar power and a fruit and vegetable garden for farm-to-table feasts.

Along with its eco-friendly elements, the private, gated mansion is also an “ultrasmart home,” says Dixon. Control panels throughout the house switch on lights, magically conjure up TV screens, and slide open floor-to-ceiling glass doors to create seamless indoor-outdoor space.

The main level includes a living room with fireplace, dining room, kitchen, and office. The massive master bedroom, with a sitting area, spans the second floor. An elevator or glass stairs will take you one level up.

Completed in 2008, the property stands out for its style, and its size. “For Rancho Santa Fe, just the acreage this size is pretty significant,” Dixon says. Plus, homes in the area tend to be “Mediterranean or rustic.” She adds, “It’s very uncommon to see such a contemporary, modern home. I think it’s a one of a kind. I don’t think you’ll see this again.”
