This Week’s Most Popular Homes Offer Something for Everyone

There’s a little something for everyone in this week’s most popular homes on realtor.com®.

After counting up the clicks, a historic home deep in the heart of Texas emerged victorious. When we spoke to the listing agent for the 1890s mansion, she wasn’t surprised by the home’s popularity. With no publicity push, a video of the home racked up tens of thousands of views and was shared on Facebook—thanks mostly to the fact that no one had seen the inside of the mysterious mansion for decades.

We also ran across the homes of a couple of sports celebs: one famous (Matt Kenseth) and one infamous (Aaron Hernandez). Plus, the most expensive home in Indiana made another impressive showing this week, sliding from the top spot into second place.

And that’s not all! You clicked on a Victorian bargain in Kentucky, a cute old farmhouse (with red barn) in Wisconsin, and an Ohio home where the purchase price includes three llamas.

Price: $350,000

Why it’s here: This historic home could be just the place to start a “llama empire or the mecca of alpaca farms,” according to listing agent Betsy Sharp. The rustic home on 19 acres comes with three male llamas. Sharp says it’s a seller’s market in the area and “any home that’s remotely unique attracts interest.” This place definitely delivers on the unique front, thanks to its blend of 1800s charm, wide open pasture, and, of course, the llamas.

Price: $255,000

Why it’s here: Only a decade old, this Ranch-style home was shared on Facebook, according to listing agent Kate Schumacher. She says she expects a big crowd at Sunday’s open house.

Price: $189,900

Why it’s here: This adorable ’20s farmhouse comes with its own red barn. We sense plenty of apple pies in a buyer’s future, thanks to the mature apple trees on the property.

7. 1421 Carriage Bridge Trl, Ballwin, MO

Price: $300,000

Why it’s here: This traditional two-story house sold in two hours, according to listing agent Kim Anderson. She says she had a packed open house last weekend where more than 40 families showed up starting at 1 p.m.—by 3 p.m. she had an offer in hand. Anderson says inventory is tight in the area and this home is in a nice location, which fueled its popularity.

Price: $1,499,000

Why it’s here: It’s the residence of former New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez. The ex-NFL star was convicted of murder in April 2015, and a judge ruled that proceeds from the home’s sale would be used toward a pending civil lawsuit.

Why it’s here: A Victorian stars as our bargain pick of the week! With over 3,600 square feet of tastefully updated space, this four-bedroom home is only $50 per square foot.

Price: $249,900

Why it’s here: This four-bedroom home sits on 4 wooded acres on a hill and overlooks a dam. It’s a “pretty setting,” says listing agent Kristen Weller. She adds that she’s been sharing the link on social media and Craigslist—and showings have been steady.

Why it’s here: The home of NASCAR driver Matt Kenseth raced onto our leaderboard. While it didn’t grab pole position, the five-bedroom lakefront home managed to nab the third-place trophy.

Price: $30,000,000

Why it’s here: Last week’s most popular home slipped one spot. We expect Indiana’s most expensive home will enchant users for weeks to come.

Price: $2,500,000

Why it’s here: Listing agent Susan deGraffenried says this historic home built in the 1890s is the talk of this town in the greater Austin area. She says people are chattering because “no one has been in this home for 50 years.” Pent-up curiosity created a housing hubbub, and a video for the home has been viewed tens of thousands of times on Vimeo and shared all over social media. Plus, this three-story estate has the distinction of being the only mansion in the city—and deGraffenried has received a number of serious inquiries from buyers who want to transform it into a high-end event venue.
