This past year has been tough on former basketball great Derek Fisher. Perhaps securing the full asking price—$6,995,000—for his 9,406-square-foot mansion in Hidden Hills, the celebrity enclave near Calabasas, CA, would help ease his pain a little.

In the past 12 months or so, the former Laker, who has five NBA championship rings, divorced his wife of 11 years, Candace, got into a public kerfuffle with former teammate Matt Barnes over dating Barnes’ (separated) wife, and was fired from his job as coach of the New York Knicks. At least he stands to make a decent profit on the 1.13-acre property he purchased in June 2009 for $5.5 million.

Built in 2007, the residence has six bedrooms, six full bathrooms, and two half-baths. The Fishers “spent several hundred thousand dollars on upgrading the home,” says listing agent Kofi Nartey of The Agency, who is also the listing agent for Michael Jordan‘s estate near Chicago.

Nartey noted that the Fishers built out the master closets (“her closet is to die for”), expanded the kitchen, and put in new lighting. The tasteful renovations also include dark hickory flooring, high ceilings, and architectural moldings, mostly done in elegant neutral shades.

Outside, there’s a large pool with fountains and a water wall, expansive lawns, mature foliage, and rose beds. There’s also a horse stable, so the residents can take full advantage of the trails that wander through this equestrian community.

In addition, there’s a guesthouse with a living room, bedroom, and kitchenette. The smaller abode would be ideal for a nanny or personal assistant, which is de rigueur in this neighborhood of Kardashians and other celebs, including Jennifer Lopez (whose Hidden Hills home is on the market), Melissa Etheridge, and Jessica Simpson.

“Since the entire community is located behind security gates, and you can get plenty of land in an idyllic country setting, it’s the perfect spot for entertainers and professional athletes with families,” says Nartey. While he’s not sure where the Fisher family, including four school-age children, will land next, he imagines it won’t be far away.
