Retired MLB slugger Eric Chavez and his wife, Alex, are selling their Paradise Valley, AZ, mansion for $5.9 million. The luxury property is primed with a variety of entertainment and sporting options.
First off, there’s the fully loaded equestrian arena with a paddock, five stalls, comfort-padded floors, hot walker, riding rink (with mirrors to check your form), grandstand, and separate barn office.
According to listing agent Rusty Davis with Sotheby’s International Realty, the couple purchased an adjacent acre of land for the horse playground, bringing the total acreage of the property to 2.92.
Next, there’s a batting cage, small football and baseball fields, built-in trampoline, and pool with waterslide. “It’s a place where kids would rather stay home than go to Disneyland,” Davis comments.
Built in 2004, the 10,431-square-foot house with six bedrooms and 10 bathrooms was a custom build for a previous owner. Davis describes it as a Santa Barbara–style home that “30 to 40 years from now, you’ll look at it and you’ll think it’s beautiful. It’s a timeless design.”
In the kitchen you’ll find two of everything: The double-wide fridge with two fridge cabinets, two dishwashers with two dishwasher drawers, and a double oven.
Upstairs, the master suite has a massive walk-in closet with three closets and a “secret closet where you push on a mirror” to open it.
The couple have already moved out to a “smaller place not far from there” Davis says. They have “been doing a lot of traveling and playing,” he adds.
Davis says there’s been interest in the property, with one buyer looking to use the acreage as a giant garage for a car collection, while another thought turning it into a go-kart/BMX course would be good for his kids.
Chavez, 38, retired in 2014 with 260 home runs. He is best known for his 13-season run at third base with the Oakland A’s. He’s a six-time Gold Glove Award winner and won a Silver Slugger Award in 2002.
