Lake Tahoe Property Featured on ‘Bonanza’ on the Market for M

If your first television crush, like mine, was the actor Michael Landon as Little Joe in “Bonanza,” you’ll love this Lake Tahoe listing featuring the property where the opening scene of the long-running Western was shot.

The sprawling estate, listed for a jaw-dropping $59 million, sits lakeside and includes almost 400 feet of beachfront and 31 acres of paddocks and meadows, including the one the wealthy Cartwright family galloped down during the opening credits of the NBC show, which ran from 1959 to 1973.

“There’s a fantastic view down the meadow to the lake,” says Lexi Cerretti, who is co-listing the estate with Dan Spano for Sierra Sotheby’s International Realty.

The property is still a working ranch where the current owner raises thoroughbreds.

“You can still see horses prancing around in the meadow,” Cerretti says.

The property includes a 16,703-square-foot main house with eight en suite bedrooms, a 16-stall barn with wash and tack rooms, a guesthouse, a caretaker’s house, and two storage buildings. It’s located about 15 minutes from a private airport and just down the road from Lake Tahoe casinos.

“It will cater to any high-end business executive, maybe a tech person who comes up from the [San Francisco] Bay Area,” Cerretti says. Or maybe someone who grew up watching a lot of “Bonanza” reruns.
