Golden Boot? Soccer Legend Abby Wambach Lists Her .35M Portland Home
It’s a time of transition for retired U.S. Soccer star Abby Wambach. After completing a recent stylish remodel on her Portland, OR, home, she’s putting it on the market for $1,348,000.
The four-bedroom, 2.5-bathroom, 3,979-square-foot contemporary home overlooks the Oregon wine country.
Over the past year, the two-time Olympic gold medalist has gone through a few changes in her life. She retired from soccer in October 2015. She recently released a memoir titled “Forward,” which covers, among other things, how she scored 184 goals—a feat no one, male or female, in international soccer has accomplished.
More significantly, Wambach and Sarah Huffman, her wife of three years, decided to separate. They’re the couple whose photo went viral when they kissed after the American squad memorably won the World Cup in 2015.
Public records show that Wambach bought the home for $705,000 in 2013. “She then put about $500,000 into a complete remodel,” says listing agent Kristina Opsahl. She didn’t touch the exterior mahogany and stone shell, but “on the inside she took it down to the studs. Every surface is brand-new,” says Opsahl.
Wambach moved walls and had a stunning staircase built of wood and stainless steel. She also added a bar, a custom stainless-steel fireplace wrap, custom cabinets, a new kitchen with top-of-the-line appliances, and nine sliding glass doors.
The outdoor patio area and amoeba-shaped pool complete the property’s chic amenities. The lot spans a half-acre of mostly level land, and it’s just minutes away from Intel and Nike headquarters, making it an attractive choice for executives moving to the area. While Portland luxury home prices have ticked upward, the city remains an attractive option for buyers moving in from pricier markets.
