While it still seems amazing to us that with a few simple clicks, we can order almost any product online and have it delivered to our door the very next day, companies such as Amazon and Google have higher (ahem) ambitions.
Amazon hopes to make drone deliveries a reality as early as 2017.
Deliveries of this kind are now being used as a sales tool for a luxury development in London.
Spire London, which, upon its completion in 2020 will be Western Europe’s tallest residential tower, offers numerous five-star amenities to it’s residents, but specs for units with balconies now include drone deliveries too.
The GBP800 million (just over USD1 billion) Chinese development which will soar 771 feet (66 metres) into the air, promises to be “future-proof,” meaning it will be easily adaptable to new technologies as they emerge.

It’s not yet clear whether the developer – China’s Greenland Group – has plans for its own bespoke drone service for the building or if it’s simply hoping that Amazon or some other tech company will handle this.
This all sounds fantastic, however, as TIME points out, there are a few stumbling blocks to clear before this will be possible – most notably aviation regulatory issues.
