This tall Thai project has been ordered to shrink
Originally 53 storeys high
Waterfront Suites, a Pattaya-based project, will not be as tall as originally planned after the local government ordered builders to reduce the number of floors planned for the project. According to media reports, developers had intended the project to stand 53 storeys, but that was not environmentally compliant, according to local authorities.
The new plans call for Waterfront Suites to stand 45 storeys, according to Bali Hai, the company behind the project. The City of Pattaya temporarily halted construction at the project pending a resubmission of the environment impact assessment (EIA). Building at the site has since resumed.
Company Director Lior Windenfeld told local newspapers that the project now complies with all laws and regulations and added that Bali Hai will cooperate with the local community to ensure there are no further issues.
In addition to problems with the height of the building, parking facilities will be improved and construction materials from the demolished upper floors are set to be removed safely without harming the environment.

Windenfeld explains that the management received advice and guidance from Pattaya City and the Office of Natural Resources and Environmental Policy and Planning to ensure pending issues are resolved and no further troubles arise. He told the Bangkok Post, “We have discussed with local community leaders their concerns on the environmental impacts and welcome suggestions to make this project a pride of Pattaya.”
Pattaya City government provided Bali Hai a set instructions including adding more parking spaces to reach 150 spots and using leading-edge technology to remove the top floors and lower the discarded material to the ground. All of this will be reported in the developer’s EIA presentation.
“We are confident that, once complete, the Waterfront Pattaya will be a proud landmark of Pattaya City, something we all could be very proud of,” Windenfeld concluded.
