When thinking of the late legend Debbie Reynolds, you might conjure up images of Hollywood’s glory days—of the spunky actress kicking up her heels in film classics such as “Singin’ in the Rain.”

Reynolds’ recent passing at the age of 84—just one day after the death of her daughter, Carrie Fisher—has saddened many, and also has them wishing they knew more about the matriarch of one of cinema’s foremost families.

There are her movies and numerous interviews, of course. But for a truly illuminating look into the life of the iconic actress, we can also turn to Reynolds’ childhood home in Burbank, CA. It recently went on the market for $749,000.

How do we know it’s her childhood home? Check out the unmistakable photo (above) of Reynolds in front of the home. It was given to us by the listing agent, Deirdre Salomone of the L34 Group, who adds that the home has been on the market for just over a month. Plus, there are many reports from longtime neighbors who confirm she lived there.

The three-bedroom, two-bathroom house appears to have the same footprint it did when it was built in 1940, when Reynolds was just 8. While much of the home (including the kitchen, pool, and master suite) have been updated, other elements, such as the second bath and the outdoor fireplace, have retained their original ’40s-era design.

The neighborhood—located in the Los Angeles metro area—is a quaint enclave, holding on to much of its original charm over the years.

“The current owners love the neighborhood so much they bought another home just up the street,” Salomone says. And for good reason: Reynolds’ childhood home is within walking distance of the fetching shops and restaurants in the Magnolia Park area. It’s also near the Debbie Reynolds Dance Studio, which the actress founded in 1979. And guess what? That dance studio is still thriving today.

At 1,246 square feet, the house is a bit small for a growing family, but the lot is over 6,600 square feet and also has a guest studio.

You can certainly picture a young Reynolds sitting on her bed, daydreaming about being on the silver screen. She’d achieve the feat in rapid fashion, after being discovered by Warner Bros. scouts while competing in a Miss Burbank contest at the age of 16.

Reynolds led a full life as an actress, singer, businesswoman, film historian, and humanitarian. She was married three times, first to singer and actor Eddie Fisher, who infamously left her for her friend Elizabeth Taylor.

Reynolds went on to own a Las Vegas resort, earn multiple award nominations, and eventually win the prestigious Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award at the Academy Awards in 2015.

Ultimately,Todd Fisher explained, the emotional strain caused by Carrie’s death was partly responsible for the stroke that led to his mother’s own demise. He reported that she said, “I want to be with Carrie,” shortly before her death.

We’re heartbroken. But we’re guessing that Reynolds would prefer that her many fans focus on all the beauty she brought to this world—isn’t that the whole point of singing in the rain?
