New highway connecting Phnom Penh and Ho Chi Minh Announced

Minister of Transport Truong Quang Nghia, and Sun Chanthol, Minister of Public Works and Transport, Cambodia on April 25 signed a memorandum of understanding on construction of HCMC – Moc Bai and Phnom Penh – Bavet expressways.

This memorandum is part of the four important documents signed during the official visit by Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc visited Cambodia on 24 and 25 April. A distance of 65 kilometers from Ho Chi Minh City to Moc Bai international port will be built by the Vietnamese side, while Cambodia will implement the 130-kilometer Phnom Penh – Bavet section with funding to be provided by Japan.

Cambodia and Vietnam have agreed to jointly invest in the highway linking Ho Chi Minh City and Phnom Penh in order to facilitate road transport between the two countries.

The high-way road will play a significant role in the connection to the regional economy and in particular to facilitate international trade and in particular the ASEAN Community.

The two countries also agreed on a partnership in infrastructure development in recent years to connect two bridges of the respective countries:  Thom bridge and Long Binh bridge.
