Few homes can claim a more musical pedigree than this French country Colonial in Stamford, CT. Built by 9 West co-founder Vince Camuto, it currently belongs to Cyndi Lauper and her husband, Dave Thornton. But the duo don’t just want to have fun in this house forever.

The couple recently put the three-bedroom home on the market for $1.25 million. Fans of the ’80s music icon took notice and made Lauper’s home the most popular property on realtor.com® last week.

Lauper bought the place in the early ’80s, just as she was achieving pop icon status with the release of her “True Colors” album, according to listing agent Mike Leventhal of Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices New England. Lauper wanted a place to retreat from the city and write.

While living here, Lauper went on to win a Grammy, Emmy, and Tony. She wrote five albums, as well as the hit musical “Kinky Boots.”

The studio where she wrote music is listed as a guesthouse. It has a fireplace, full kitchen, and bath.

The main residence has three bedrooms and 3.5 baths. It sits on a 1.58-acre lot with lake views. There’s also a swimming pool on the terrace. While it feels like a remote mountain resort, it’s only about 45 minutes by train from Midtown Manhattan, according to Leventhal.

Lauper and Thornton, an actor who has starred in TV shows including “Homeland,” “Law and Order,” and “Elementary,” brought an artist from Italy to hand-paint and -stencil the walls. They also installed a cedar mansard roof and imported 19th-century etched glass doors from France.

Which begs the question: Why let such a paradise go?

“They just want to simplify their lives,” explains Leventhal.

Their oldest son is out of school and they own a comfortable home in New York City, where they spend time when they’re not on the road. Lauper, 63, recently released a country album titled “Detour” and is performing concerts across the U.S. this summer.
