Akamai’s former CEO and current Chairman George Conrades has placed his storied mansion in Boston on the market for $11.2 million.

The five-bedroom, eight-bath building, which dates to the late 1880s, offers 7,500 square feet of living space. There’s also a separate garden-level suite with private entrance, an elevator, and a two-car garage.

The spacious building in the tony Back Bay neighborhood has gone through multiple conversions. Designed by Boston architecture firm Allen and Kenway, it was built for shoe nail manufacturer Daniel C. Knowlton and his wife, Mary Elizabeth (Dearborn) Knowlton, according to the website Back Bay Houses.

The property changed hands over the years and was eventually divided into eight apartments in the 1950s. In 1989, the building transferred ownership again, and was subsequently converted into four condominiums, which became three units when two of the condos were combined.

Conrades bought the building in 2003 for $4.6 million, according to property records, and turned the property back into a single-family home.

The mansion’s location is known for its rows of Victorian-style brownstones that run along the Charles River. The upscale and walkable neighborhood is also close to Newbury Street and its shops, restaurants, and bars.

Conrades became CEO of Akamai—an enormous content delivery network headquartered in Cambridge, MA—in 1999. He was elevated to chairman in 2010. To afford the luxurious residence Conrades is ready to hand over, you’ll require one wicked big bank account.
