One Direction’s Louis Tomlinson Lists M Compound Near Malibu

Louis Tomlinson, one of the four wildly successful singers in the British pop band One Direction, is selling his sprawling mansion in Calabasas, CA, for $14 million. He picked up the compound in 2015 for $10 million.

Tomlinson, 26, famously stepped onto the public stage in 2010 as a solo contestant on “X Factor.” He failed to advance, but the show’s creator, Simon Cowell, suggested he team up with fellow “X Factor” singers Harry Styles, Liam Payne, Zayn Malik, and Niall Horan to form a new boy band. (Malik split with the group in 2015.)

To date, One Direction has released five hit albums, and chart-topping earworms such as “What Makes You Beautiful” and “Live While We’re Young.” Before the band took a hiatus in 2016, it routinely sold out stadiums full of screaming fans on four separate world tours.

That success helped Tomlinson build a small real estate portfolio in Southern California. The home he’s now selling—a 9,659-square-foot, five-bedroom, eight-bath mansion on a 4.7-acre lot in the Monte Nido neighborhood of Calabasas—is a 10-minute drive from the beaches in Malibu.

Just five months after buying the home, he put it on the rental market for $60,000 per month. In late 2016, Tomlinson reportedly picked up a 6,000-square-foot home in the Hollywood Hills for $7.3 million.

Built in 1991, the gated compound in Calabasas was designed to evoke Santa Barbara’s beachy, Spanish style.

After the entry gates, there’s a guardhouse and a circular driveway that winds through native oak and sycamore trees and manicured landscaping. Up the steps to the two-story main house, double doors open to reveal a barrel-vaulted foyer, hand-hewn walnut floors, and beefy Roman columns leading to the open-concept living room.

The living room is anchored by an oversized fireplace with an intricately carved limestone mantel, old-world tiles, and a hearth wide enough to fit every member of One Direction standing shoulder to shoulder. There’s a wall-to-wall arched window, french doors, a wrought-iron chandelier, and dark wood coffered ceiling.

Just off the entrance is a two-story, octagonal library with floor-to-ceiling bookcases built in, rolling ladders, and a limestone fireplace (the home has five fireplaces). The kitchen has a saltwater fish tank, stainless-steel Wolf range, island, and breakfast bar. There’s a family dining room and a formal dining room.

Elsewhere, there’s a home theater, gym, wine cellar, and game room.

Outside, there’s a covered patio, fireplace, fire pit, kitchen, waterfall, koi pond, and bridge. There’s also a mosaic-tiled pool and spa, two guesthouses, and a meditation teahouse.

Styles, Payne, and Horan also own homes in Southern California, meaning impromptu One Direction jam sessions are never more than a short drive away.
