Kicked Out of Lanford, Where Does Roseanne Barr Go Now? We Look at Her Homes
It’s been quite a week for Roseanne Barr. She’d been riding high: Her eponymous show about a working-class Midwestern family in the 1980s and ’90s had returned to the air in March, got sky-high ratings, and promptly earned another season from ABC. But after her racist tweet about a former aide to President Barack Obama this week, the network reversed itself, canceling the show, and her agency dropped her.
So what’s next for Barr?
She may have been kicked out of her television home in fictional Lanford, IL, with its dumpy couch and drab interiors, but in real life, Barr’s vast real estate holdings are typical of a celebrity with a decadeslong career in showbiz.
Let’s have a look at a few of the properties in Barr’s portfolio (including some of her former homes). She may be licking her wounds, planning her next defensive tweet, or taking an Ambien-fueled nap in one of them right now.
The Hawaiian nut farm
Purchased in 2007
Price: $1.78 million
The scoop: More than a decade after her sitcom first ended, in 1997, Barr resurfaced in 2011, on a Lifetime reality TV show titled “Roseanne’s Nuts.”
This 16-episode glimpse into her family life was filmed on her 64-acre macadamia and livestock farm on the big island of Hawaii. Located near the northern shores in the hamlet of Hamakua, the house was advertised in 2007 as a “charming country home … offering supreme privacy.”
The show ran for a single season and centered on wacky doings on the farm and its three-bedroom, 2,212-square-foot house. Barr shared the home with her longtime love, Johnny Argent, and son Jake Pentland.
But life wasn’t always about the aloha spirit on the farm. In 2011, the actress had an acrimonious dispute with her neighbors.
She said her neighbors were trespassing and were miffed about all the attention she was bringing to the area. The matter was eventually settled in mediation.
Barr still owns the nut farm along with another Hawaii property she purchased in 2010.

The other Hawaii house
Purchased in 2010
Price: $900,000
Located about 20 miles east of her nut farm, this 1-acre property in the town of Kamuela was purchased in November 2010 through her “Big Buck Trust.”
Listing photos at the time showed the lovely Kohakohau stream running behind a five-bedroom home. Built in 1968, the single-story house appeared a bit run-down in 2010. It’s quite likely the house has since been upgraded.

Family beach hideaway in Playa del Rey
Purchased in 2005
Price: $2.11 million
The scoop: Back on the mainland, Barr also owns this four-bedroom, 4,746-square-foot home in the ritzy beach community of Playa del Rey in Los Angeles.

Playa del Rey, Part 2
Purchased in 2007
Price: $1.65 million
The scoop: Playa del Rey is so nice, Barr bought there twice. Just two years after purchasing the beach home, Barr snapped up this smaller house in the same area. It has three bedrooms and measures over 2,600 square feet.
Located on the west side of Los Angeles, the quiet suburb is a quick commute to Hollywood—depending on traffic. Then again, she might not be taking any meetings soon.

El Segundo hacienda
Purchased in 2003
Price: $1.17 million
Barr also owns a pair of homes in El Segundo, CA. It’s a convenient location because she also owns a studio on the city’s Main Street. Called Full Moon and High Tide Productions, the studio is operated by Pentland, according to the Los Angeles Times.
So it’s a fairly safe bet that Pentland lives in one of the two El Segundo homes his well-to-do mama owns.
The first is this hacienda-style home built in 1991. It has four bedrooms and four bathrooms, and measures 4,500 square feet. The home was a savvy investment—it’s estimated to be worth well north of $2 million.

El Segundo, the sequel
Purchased in 2005
Price: $1.63 million
The scoop: Barr’s second home in El Segundo is just down the street from the first one. Built in 1963, it has three bedrooms and four bathrooms, and measures over 3,000 square feet.

The Iowa mansion that never was
Purchased in 1993
The scoop: The wildest of all of her real estate endeavors is the Iowa mansion Barr attempted to build with former husband Tom Arnold.
It was pitched as the biggest house in Iowa. The couple purchased an 1,338-acre property in Des Moines, IA, in 1993 and began construction on a massive, 28,000-square-foot mansion, complete with a basement swimming pool and a heated backyard pond (so Barr could swim, even on chilly Iowa days).
But just a year later, the duo called it quits on their marriage, as well as their dream home. They donated the land and the few structures on it to the Indian Hills Community College Foundation. Ruins of the house are still visible today, and it still attracts the occasional visitor, according to the Des Moines Register.

Lake Arrowhead ranch
Purchased in 1999
Sold in November 2005 for $2.8 million
The scoop: Barr spent a few years holed up at this Lake Arrowhead, CA, ranch with her then-husband, bodyguard Ben Thomas, and their son, Buck.
The 11-acre property includes a 6,800-square-foot, five-bedroom main house, a two-story bunkhouse, and a one-bedroom guesthouse with kitchen, according to the Los Angeles Times.
Barr sold this ranch, along with another rustic Lake Arrowhead property, in late 2005 after her marriage to Thomas ended.

The Beverly Hills mansion
Sold in June 2000 for $8.35 million
The scoop: This Beverly Hills, CA, mansion was Barr’s home during the ’90s. It’s exactly the sort of home you’d expect of a major TV star. It measured 11,000 square feet and had six bedrooms and eight bathrooms. In 2000, Barr sold the home to actor Samuel L. Jackson.

Rolling Hills rambler
Purchase date: 2000
Purchase price: $6.5 million
The scoop: This is another huge home Barr once owned in SoCal. She sold this Rolling Hills property in 2003 for $8.2 million. The 10,000-square-foot mansion had six bedrooms and eight bathrooms.
———
Barr has never been afraid to make real estate moves. She seems to value privacy and location over sheer size and opulence, which is a bit surprising when you consider she’s reportedly worth an estimated $80 million.
In 2015, she made overtures to purchase the actual home used for exterior shots of “Roseanne” in Evansville, IN.
However, all purchases aren’t meant to be. The University of Evansville soccer team was living in the home and unwilling to sell.
