Hey, Food Lovers! Rent Michael Pollan’s Berkeley Home for ,500 a Month

Food lovers, take note. Author and food expert Michael Pollan has listed his home in Berkeley, CA, for lease from Aug. 30 through Dec. 30, for $6,500 a month.

And there’s a bit of a bonus for tenants. For those who took to heart his invocation: ”Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants,” there’s an edible garden in the backyard. 

A New York Times Magazine contributor, Pollan is also a professor at the University of California, Berkeley’s Graduate School of Journalism, and the Lewis K. Chan Arts lecturer and professor of the Practice of Non-Fiction at Harvard.

Not surprisingly, the remodeled home with San Francisco and Bay views is surrounded by greenery and filled with books. Plus, there are plenty of areas to cook, write, and contemplate. As the listing notes, “Great success and creativity has been achieved here.”

Outside, along with raised planters, you’ll find a dining table and lounge area around a fire pit.

Naturally, the home is in bike-riding or walking distance to the university, public transit, and gourmet treasures like the restaurant Chez Panisse and the Cheese Board bakery. 

Pollan, 64, is the author of The New York Times bestsellers “Cooked,” “Food Rules,” “In Defense of Food,” and “The Omnivore’s Dilemma.” Most recently, he tried psychedelics as research for his newest book, “How to Change Your Mind.” In 2010, Time magazine named him one of the most influential people in the world.
