A Bargain Mansion in Need of Love Is This Week’s Most Popular Home
This week’s most popular home on realtor.com® is a mansion in need of a white knight. Listed for a paltry $120,000, the home has its share of issues. Nearly 100 years old, this south Indiana estate is in a sad state after years of neglect.
But for a buyer with the innate (and oh-so-useful!) ability to see past grime, graffiti, and grotesque bathrooms, the home represents an ideal challenge. And at only $27 per square foot, its popularity isn’t shocking. It’s an affordable project for someone looking to embark on a historic home renovation.
Aside from the bargain fixer-upper in the top spot, there were a few other trends worth highlighting:
- Four of this week’s 10 most popular homes are built of brick, making this one of the sturdiest popularity “most popular” columns we’ve ever written.
- The westernmost house on our list hails from the middle of Texas, which means the West Coast took a back seat when it came to notable homes.
- There are no celebrity-owned homes to speak of. Modesty reigned this week.
We’ll set modesty aside and say this week’s list of most-clicked homes across the country is a must-read.
10. 1128 E 19th St, Tulsa, OK
Price: $899,000
Why it’s here: This adorable brick cottage is ensconced at the upper end of the Tulsa market, where the median listing price is $167,000. We’re in love with the three-bedroom home’s outdoor living room, which gives off a distinctly California vibe.
———
9. 7467 Flutter Rd, Fort Wayne, IN
Price: $898,900
Why it’s here: We’re used to seeing homes in Fort Wayne pop up among the most popular. It’s an ultra-affordable metro, and our chief economist named it one of June’s hottest housing markets. This mini-mansion on the north side of town is one of the city’s 10 highest-priced homes. It’s billed as “innovative, smart, and stylish.”
———
8. 360 Eastover Dr SE, Concord, NC
Price: $425,000
Why it’s here: This handsome brick Colonial created a stir when it hit the market this week. Located in the city’s downtown, it’s had a number of recent upgrades and is ready for a buyer to move in.
———
7. 313 S Fuquay Ave, Fuquay Varina, NC
Price: $524,900
Why it’s here: Also in North Carolina, this historic five-bedroom Victorian just celebrated its 100th birthday last year. It’s had tasteful updates to the interior, but the home’s vintage charm is still apparent. And its gorgeous wraparound porch is large enough to host a party visible from the street.
———
6. 3771 Bethel Rd, Weatherford, TX
Price: $2,600,000
Why it’s here: It’s this week’s horse-themed home. Equine love seems to make an impression every week, and this 151-acre Texas ranch is no exception. With three barns, a riding arena, two pens, and 44 stalls, it’s a “turn-key training facility” waiting for a buyer who’s partial to the ponies.
———
5. 8016 Craginhall Ln, Dublin, OH
Price: $759,900
Why it’s here: Brick strikes again—it’s this week’s third red-brick entrant. A $30,000 price cut this week on this stylish four-bedroom propelled it to new levels of popularity.
———
4. 511 Spaulding Lake Dr, Greenville, SC
Price: $664,900
Why it’s here: OK, now we’re sensing a trend. Where’s all the brick love coming from? Framed by two large oak trees and sitting on over an acre of land, this brick house is mighty indeed. At the back of this five-bedroom home is an elegant sunroom with views of Spaulding Lake below.
———
3. 750 500th Ave, Elkhart, IL
Price: $84,900
Why it’s here: Here’s a true fixer-upper opportunity in Central Illinois! This old Victorian needs work, but it can be snatched up for less than 100 large. Only $28 per square foot, it’s a relative bargain—but a buyer needs to bring an all-cash offer.
———
2. 3416 Cortona Ln, Friendswood, TX
Price: $287,000
Why it’s here: South of Houston, this unassuming home in a gated community is this week’s mystery entrant. Maybe it’s the 20-foot ceiling in the entryway? Or perhaps it’s the beige exterior and interior? If you have an inkling, please let us know.
———
1. 1300 SE Riverside Dr, Evansville, IN
Price: $120,000
Why it’s here: It’s a chance to return a historic mansion to its former glory. Known as the Ingle estate and built in 1923, the six-bedroom home has fallen into disrepair. The three-level home’s potential is apparent on the bottom level, but upstairs, a buyer will have to see beyond a room currently covered in graffiti and a couple of bathrooms best described as busted. But for only $27 a square foot, the right renovator could shine up this old gem to its original luster.
