After Retiring From NFL, Former Seahawk Cliff Avril Selling .3M Bellevue Home
Earlier this year, Super Bowl champion Cliff Avril had to step away from the NFL earlier than he would have liked, due to injury. Now, he’s also stepping away from his residence in Bellevue, WA, after owning the home for just a little over a year.
The 33-year-old Seattle Seahawks defensive end suffered a serious neck injury during the 2017 season and wasn’t able to make enough of a recovery to continue his playing career.
Listed for $3.3 million, his Washington manse was finished in the spring of 2018 and is a true gem. The inviting exterior offers a cool contrast of brown wood and slate gray.
Measuring in at 4,664 square feet, the home features five bedrooms, each with an ensuite bathroom. There’s a roomy kitchen with island, a master bedroom with its own fireplace, and easy access to downtown Bellevue. It sits about 11 miles across Lake Washington from the Seahawks’ home of CenturyLink Field.
After the neck injury, Avril was up in the air about whether he would make a comeback. “I just want to do what’s right for me from the standpoint of after football, and how that would affect it,” Avril told the NFL Network’s “NFL Up to the Minute,” after the Seahawks’ decision to list him with the designation “Failed physical.”
“If the doctor comes back and says ‘Things aren’t healing right,’ or even if things are healing right, ‘One hit could mess you up,’ or whatever, then that’s an easy decision. But right now, in my head, I definitely want to start training and doing things like I am going to play.”
Not long after, Avril decided to call it quits from the NFL. After being drafted by the Detroit Lions in 2008, the Jacksonville, FL, native played five seasons in the Motor City before joining Seattle in 2013.
He was instrumental in helping Seattle capture its first Super Bowl championship in the 43-8 victory over the Denver Broncos in 2014’s Super Bowl XLVII. Avril, the son of Haitian immigrants, who played college ball for Purdue University, was also named to the Pro Bowl that year.
