Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt Sell French Quarter Estate for .9 Million
Divorcing A-listers Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt have started the process of untangling their holdings, at least in the real estate category. The couple have found a buyer for their jointly owned home in New Orleans’ French Quarter. The sales price is $4.9 million, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
The movie stars bought the home for $3.5 million in 2007 as the city was trying to recover from Hurricane Katrina. Pitt established the Make It Right Foundation to spur new housing in the city’s hard-hit Ninth Ward neighborhood.
The 7,645-square-foot home is an 1830s masonry mansion with marble mantels, an elevator, and a grand spiral staircase. The courtyard boasts a pool and two-story guesthouse. There’s also private parking for two cars, surely a selling point in the residential district of the popular neighborhood.
The couple put the five-bedroom, three-bath property on the market in May 2015 for $6.5 million. It was relisted in November 2015 with a new price ($5.65 million) and a new marketing strategy focusing more on the home’s musical history and less on its celebrity pedigree.
The home once belonged to New Orleans music impressario Cosimo Matassa. And according to the listing agent we spoke with last November, “Everyone from Little Richard to Fats Domino recorded here.”
Jolie filed for divorce in September, and the couple are in the middle of a tumultuous split. The circumstances around their separation might explain why they accepted about $1.6 million less than the original asking price for the home. They still own homes in California, New York, and France; though, rumors are swirling that their French chateau is soon to go up for sale.
