Attention, Troops: Former Girl Scouts Camp in Ohio Up for Sale
Live out your summer camp dreams by purchasing this 282-acre spread in Loudonville, OH. The former Girl Scouts camp is set to go up for auction on July 20.
Listed with Jason Miller of Mossy Oak Properties, the property includes an updated owner’s cabin, several other cabins, five pavilions, plenty of ponds and creeks, active springs, and the option to transfer mineral rights. Marketable timber is also on the property, providing sustainable harvesting for the next 20 or 40 years. A fenced-in outdoor pool is also included.
It was an active Girl Scouts camp until 2002, housing up to 140 campers.
“Our seller bought it, and he’s used it for a hunting and nature property [ever since],” says Miller.
“This thing’s got the full package,” says Brian Bauer, another Mossy Oak Properties listing agent.
Miller agrees, noting a structure with an attached commercial kitchen and cathedral ceiling as a huge perk: “It’s got the old state park lodge–type stone-and-beam construction and a fireplace in the middle.”
A popular summer getaway for residents of Cleveland and Columbus—both cities are an 80-minute drive away—Loudonville is also close to Mohican State Park.
“Loudonville is considered the camping and canoe capital of Ohio,” says Bauer. A shortage of vacation cabin rentals in the region has driven up demand.
In contrast to the state’s metro areas, “it’s a very rural countryside. Loudonville’s the closest town. It’s a sleepy little Main Street town,” says Miller.
The region also attracted the attention of a celebrity chef. “Gordon Ramsay was (at Landoll’s Mohican Castle) right across the street and filmed a ‘Hotel Hell’ segment there,” says Miller. It aired last year.
Who’d be the ideal buyer for this property? “Maybe a church group or corporate retreat–type person would look at it,” says Miller.
It’s worth noting that those who don’t want to spring for the entire camp could bid on a part of it.
“You can buy one or two parcels, or buy it all. The high bidder can take as many parcels as they want,” adds Miller. Parcels are as small as 5 acres and as large as 86 acres. We’re not sure if any Girl Scout cookies will help sweeten a buyer’s bid, but it’s worth a try.
