Author and Ex-Groupie Pamela Des Barres Lists Her Rockin’ Home

Pamela Des Barres, the greatest rock ‘n’ roll groupie ever, has put her love shack in Los Angeles on the market for $990,000. Des Barres bought the three-bedroom, two-bathroom home in 2000 for $295,000, and filled it with her vintage rock ‘n’ roll wardrobe and souvenirs, which she has been selling off at frequent yard sales over the years.

If you’re into the rock scene of the ’60s and ’70s, you’re likely aware of Des Barres’ two popular memoirs, “I’m With the Band” and “Take Another Little Piece of My Heart: A Groupie Grows Up.”

Actress Kate Hudson said she used the books for reference and inspiration in prepping for her role as Penny Lane in director Cameron Crowe‘s classic film “Almost Famous.” Des Barres, who was a nanny for Frank Zappa‘s kids, was romantically linked to Mick Jagger, Jimmy Page, Keith Moon, Jim Morrison, Gram Parsons, and Waylon Jennings, among others.

The listing photos show the house jam-packed with portraits of Elvis, Jesus, and Des Barres herself in all her red-headed glory. There’s red shag carpeting and gold crushed-velvet furniture, plenty of wicker and tchotchkes galore—remnants of her rock ‘n’ roll lifestyle cover every surface.

Most sellers stow away their personal items when they’re putting a home on the market, but Des Barres seems to flaunt hers proudly. After all, the 1,108-square-foot home is advertised as a “Great affordable starter home or remodel project on large 5,562 sq. ft. lot.” The listing also throws in a telling sentence: “Beautiful new condo developments have been built on the block.”

In other words, “Hey developers! Check out this killer deal on a tear-down in a desirable neighborhood.” Which means there’s no need to fix it up if it will be razed as soon as it’s sold.

So why would Des Barres even dream of leaving behind her own little rock ‘n’ roll paradise? She recently told a reporter for racked.com that her mortgage is about to rise, and she’s set to launch a clothing line called Miss Pamela’s Closet, which will feature vintage pieces as well as re-creations of her hippie chic favorites. She’s clearing space in her life and her living conditions for something new.

Meanwhile, rock ‘n’ roll fans will likely be checking the listing daily. As soon as the property goes under contract, you can bet there will be a major yard sale, with countless items falling into the category of “I know it’s only rock and roll, but I like it!”
