Cher Used to Own This Week’s Most Expensive New Listing

Known for her never-ending string of farewell tours, legendary singer Cher bid farewell to this week’s most expensive new listing back in 1988. The buyer three decades ago? Eddie Murphy. Of course.

When Cher sold her place to the “Raw” comic, she strutted away with $5.9 million. But if she could turn back time, would she make the same decision? The property’s now on the market for a whopping $85 million. After Murphy, it changed hands over the years and four additional lots were acquired to supplement what’s now a 16-acre spread.

Another interesting tidbit about this expensive abode? It’s not done. Yes, for $85 million, you can join this home in progress. As the listing states, the massive main house is “now being freshly reenvisioned.”

Aside from Cher’s former address, this week’s most expensive new listings on realtor.com® include an Aspen ranch, another unit in 15 Central Park West, a five-level Laguna Beach beauty, and a cool compound along Florida’s Gulf Coast.

1. 2727 Benedict Canyon Dr, Beverly Hills, CA

Price: $85,000,000 ($2,656 per square foot)
Luxe factor: Do you believe you could live in Cher‘s former mansion? Although it’s changed hands a few times since the legendary diva purchased the land in the ’70s, it’s still hallowed ground for devoted fans of the “Dark Lady.” Variety reports the 20,000-square-foot main house is currently in “mid-renovation”—to which we say, wow. You’d think $85 million would be enough for a finished product. But it’s just another day in the 90210.

Price: $35,000,000 ($5,729 per square foot)
Luxe factor: Perched along the Pacific, this five-level mansion is located in the “highly coveted front row of Emerald Bay.” Out of the 500 or so homes in the community, there are only a handful on the beach—making this five-bedroom home a valued commodity. And as is custom for luxury properties in the O.C., Emerald Bay is a gated community designed to keep the riffraff out.

Price: $35,000,000 ($2,986 per square foot)
Luxe factor: The picturesque private pond out back is worthy of serious contemplation. The listing says the six-bedroom home was “recently remodeled” and boasts a “substantial movie theater.” We’d love to catch up on our favorite soaps on the big screen before a jaunt to the nearby downtown.

4. 15 Central Park W Apt 35D, New York, NY

Price: $29,000,000 ($9,140 per square foot)
Luxe factor: Last week, a unit in the same prestigious building hit the market for $29.5 million. At this price, what’s $500,000 between friends? With only a half-million dollar difference, it’s going to be a tough choice. Keep in mind this residence is cheaper, but it’s nine floors above its more expensive cousin.

5. 6111 Sanibel Captiva Rd Sanibel, FL

Price: $27,000,000 ($2,700 per square foot)
Luxe factor: First listed in 2013 for $23 million, this waterfront mansion is back on the market with a significant price increase. Known as Mandalay, the five-bedroom home sits alongside the warm waters of the Gulf of Mexico.
