Shanghai’s biggest property developers, Greenland Group, is going ahead with a GBP800 million (USD10.6 million) tower in London. Upon completion, this will be western Europe’s tallest residential skyscraper.

Spire London will stand tall at 235 metres, on land close to Canary Wharf – one of London’s central business districts.

With prices starting at GBP595,000 (USD792,000) for “luxurious suites,” amenities for the tower include an infinity pool with spectacular views over the city.

Luxury penthouses start from GBP3 million (USD3.9 million), and will be accessed by a private lift.

The building will also include a controversial “poor door” entrance for social tenants on the lower floors.

The affordable housing units will make up 96 of the 861 apartments. While the inequality has raised eyebrows among some, the developers have noted that these tenants will have equal access to communal facilities on the third floor, including a crèche, games room and meeting rooms.

Greenland Group’s UK managing director, Wenhao Qian, said the venture shows tremendous faith in the London property market post-Brexit.

“This important launch reflects the confidence that Greenland Group continues to have in both the London economy and the London property market.”
