Country Blues? Reba McEntire’s Former Mansion Is This Week’s Most Popular Home

Country Blues? Reba McEntire’s Former Mansion Is This Week’s Most Popular Home

most-popular-sept-15

Reba McEntire knows country music. But in the world of real estate, she’s hit a bum note.

The curious tale of missed opportunity surrounding her former home in Lebanon, TN, helped elevate it as our most-clicked listing this week on realtor.com®.

The sad story: The songbird once shared the lakefront mansion with her husband and manager, Narvel Blackstock. When the couple split up, they sought to sell the farm in 2016. The $7.9 million listing languished on the market, until a developer bought it for the steeply discounted price of $5 million.

After the property’s 80-plus acres were subdivided to develop multiple homes, McEntire’s original mansion was put back on the market for $2.95 million. Where McEntire saw a pile of regret, the savvy developer saw a pile of cash. And that’s how a country song writes itself.

Coming in at second place is a little slice of history in Palisades, NY. A stone cottage built in 1780 where George Washington is rumored to have worked has been listed for $1.6 million. The charming place includes a 1930s addition and measures 2,400 square feet. It has three fireplaces and two terraces, and is surrounded by flower gardens.

The No. 3 finisher is located in Ocean Springs, MS. Built in 1981, the custom home is one of about 150 designed by Carroll B. Ishee, who was known for constructing modern homes for the Gulf Coast landscape.
