Prolific director Michael Apted is known for helming “Masters of Sex” and “Ray Donovan” on the small screen, as well as James Bond and Chronicles of Narnia features on the big screen. He’s also responsible for the “Up Series” of movies, which have followed the same group of British children every seven years since 1964.
To follow his latest off-screen project, you’ll need to study up on the sale of his unique contemporary home in the Silicon Beach area of Venice, CA. The home is on the market for $2.45 million.
If you’re not familiar with Silicon Beach, you should know that it’s the L.A. version of Silicon Valley, and has become one of the largest tech hubs in the world. It spans the coastal area from Santa Monica through Marina del Rey, Venice, and down to Playa del Rey, and companies such as Google, YouTube, Facebook, Yahoo, and AOL all have outposts there. Real estate in the area couldn’t be hotter, and available beachfront property has become particularly out of reach and unavailable.
That’s why Apted’s four-bedroom, 3.5-bath house, which sits in an area known as “East of Lincoln,” has become a destination for Silicon Beach execs with families.
“We’re noticing a trend,” says listing agent Emily Bregman of Berkshire Hathaway. “People who want to live in a family neighborhood with more space, yet still want to be within a bike ride of work and the beach, are moving in this direction.”
Apted’s property is a unique house in a unique area. In addition to its modern geometric structure, another outstanding feature of the home is the beach mural painted by local artist Garrett Wasserman, which depicts swimmers frolicking in the waves.
Built in 1954, the home has been updated, with dark walnut flooring throughout and a sophisticated kitchen with zebra wood cabinetry and stainless-steel appliances.
Apted is putting the finishing touches on a film titled “Unlocked,” starring Michael Douglas, Orlando Bloom, Noomi Rapace, Toni Collette, and John Malkovich.
