Edward Norton Goes All In on Architectural Beauty in Malibu
A recent Malibu real estate deal proves that actor Edward Norton has exceptional taste in architecture and that he’s quite a high roller when it comes to housing.
The 47-year-old star managed to score an iconic beachfront gem built by renowned architect John Lautner for $11.8 million, according to the Los Angeles Times. The home’s been bouncing around the market for years, at prices ranging from $22 million to, more recently, $13.75 million, which means Norton snagged himself a deal.
Known as the Stevens House, the curved concrete structure was built in 1967 and it’s located in the gated Malibu Colony, where plenty of celebs are known to dwell.
But the Stevens House is unlike other residences along this exclusive stretch of sand. It has an arresting bowed design featuring a pair of harmonizing arches that Lautner designed to resemble the rolling waves on its more than 37 feet of private beach.
Made of concrete, glass, and wood, the home’s listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It has five bedrooms and five bathrooms in nearly 3,400 square feet of indoor living space. It also features a beach-facing deck, grassy yard, and covered swimming pool.
Lautner, a Michigan native who apprenticed with Frank Lloyd Wright, was also famed for being the preferred architect of Hollywood luminaries including Bob Hope. Now we can add Norton to that lofty list.
The home was previously owned by movie producer and architecture aficionado Michael LaFetra. He spent a pretty penny restoring the Stevens House to its former glory and updating it, adding solar power, custom sliding glass doors, and cork floors, according to Variety.
Norton will surely enjoy the avant-garde home with his wife, Shauna Robertson, a producer on films such as “Anchorman,” “The 40-Year-Old Virgin,” and “Knocked Up.”
Norton, a three-time Oscar nominee, has starred in films such as “Fight Club,” “American History X,” and “Birdman.” He’s also a United Nations Goodwill Ambassador and supports causes such as the Maasai Wilderness Conservation Trust.
