Equinox Fitness Co-Founder Lists ‘5 Star House’ in Armonk, NY, for .8M

The co-founder of the luxury fitness club brand Equinox, Vito Errico, has listed the custom mansion he built as a stylish retreat in Armonk, NY, for $8.88 million.

The home, which he calls “Five Star House,” was designed in part by Errico himself and by a team of Equinox in-house designers. It was to serve as a model for his “hotel at home” living concept. The contemporary barn home is built as a series of structures connected by dramatic transitional spaces.

The six-bedroom, 6.5- bathroom, more than 11,400-square-foot home was built in 2006, and echoes the clean, chiseled lines of other Equinox properties. Mixing aspiration and function, the building looks a lot like a fancy spa, while maintaining a sense of warmth, thanks to large windows that fill wide open spaces with garden views and natural light, and the generous use of natural stone, wood, and similar finishes to soften sharp edges.

Highlights of the more than 2-acre property just 45 minutes outside Manhattan include a bespoke Bulthaup kitchen, two offices, an indoor pool room made with ipe wood with spa amenities and a retractable glass ceiling, a billiard-room, home theater, wine room, large commercial-grade home gym, and indoor sport court.

Outside, a large terrace with room for entertaining and a built-in barbecue sits above the lush lawn and gardens.

“I wanted to build a family home with a welcoming sense of arrival and at a scale that unites us,” Errico says of the property. “The transitional spaces are larger than normal, and the layout is open and livable, creating a comfortable environment. It wasn’t about building a grand, in-your-face mansion, but rather a home where my family and friends can enjoy their surroundings and one another.”

Errico, along with his siblings Danny and Lavinia, founded Equinox in 1990, built the luxury fitness business into a success, and sold the chain in 2006.
