Ex-49er Jeremy Newberry Selling Bay Area Estate and Event Space for .5M

It turns out former NFL behemoth Jeremy Newberry may be a romantic at heart. The wedding event space the former center owns with his wife, Sabrina Newberry, in Brentwood, CA, is on the market for $5.45 million.

Located in the East Bay, not far from where the former 49er grew up in Antioch, the spacious spread includes a “sought-after event venue,” a 4-acre producing vineyard, 9 acres of landscaped grounds, and 28,000 square feet of buildings. The buildings include a 7,000-square-foot main house, 7,300-square-foot shop and man cave, event venue with grand pavilion, lake with beach, bridal casita, and bar. 

According to public records, the property was purchased as vacant land in 2006 for $735,000. The couple built the place from the ground up.

The main house has six bedrooms, three fireplaces, an open kitchen, casual dining and living space, media room, and eight-car garage.

For friends or parties, the property includes a pool with swim-up bar and a man cave complete with shuffleboard, billiards, and a bar, as well as memorabilia from Newberry’s NFL days. There’s also a 4,712-square-foot event center with grand pavilion where wedding parties are held, with views of Mount Diablo. 

“It just started growing,” says listing agent Deneen Vornhagen. “They moved in in 2007 and finished the venue two years ago. The very first wedding there was their wedding (in 2012).”

Planning other people’s weddings on the property simply seemed like a fun idea, the agent notes. Once the duo decided to rent it out, “it just grew and grew,” Vornhagen says.

Last year, about 60 weddings were held in the space, which has received positive reviews.

“I just had my wedding at Newberry and my entire day went perfect,” wrote Amber B. on Yelp.

“This place is magical, so beautiful, and the perfect location,” added Taylor N.

Newberry now has a day job as an NFL analyst for local TV. The 42-year-old, who had his pro start with the San Francisco 49ers, played for the Oakland Raiders, San Diego Chargers, and Atlanta Falcons, with whom he ended his career in 2009.

Selling two profitable businesses at a nice profit is a savvy business decision, as well as a family-oriented move thanks to the couple’s four young children. But it wasn’t an easy call, says Vornhagen. “It was a very hard decision. It was something [Sabrina] created. She’s grown to care for it.”
