Ex-Rams QB Marc Bulger Finally Sells Missouri Home, Then Buys in Tennessee
After spending more than two years looking for a buyer, former NFL quarterback Marc Bulger has sold his mansion in St. Louis for $4.5 million.
And it might sound like Bulger scored a touchdown with the sale, but if you consider the original listing price, it appears more like someone forced the QB to punt. The 6.5-acre estate hit the market in May 2014 for $7.49 million; the price was reduced twice before the house was sold in November 2016 for roughly $3 million less than the listing price.
The 22-room mansion is located in Huntleigh, MO, an equestrian enclave 20 minutes from downtown St. Louis. It was built by local architects Maritz & Young in 1930.
The six-bedroom, nine-bath, three-story home spans an impressive 11,587 square feet. The first floor features terrazzo floors with a circular staircase, extensive decorative plaster moldings, and a butler’s pantry with state-of-the-art appliances.
The second floor features a master suite with a master bathroom that’s been updated with a jetted tub and steam shower, while the third floor has a large playroom and ample storage. There’s also a 1,000-bottle wine cellar, large outdoor pool with decks, and an outdoor fireplace.
Bulger moved on very quickly from the sale of the St. Louis property and purchased a quainter house in Brentwood, TN, for $1.8 million. The four-bedroom, seven-bath estate is roughly the same size as the Huntleigh mansion.
Bulger played in the NFL for eight seasons with the St. Louis Rams before injuries slowed his career. His sudden success after taking over the starting quarterback duties midway through the 2002 season not only prompted St. Louis to part ways with legendary QB Kurt Warner, but it also netted him a six-year, $62.5 million contract ($27 million guaranteed) in 2007.
Bulger asked for, and was granted, his release from the team in 2010. He now serves on the advisory board for the recently formed Major League Football.
