John Hendricks, founder and former chair of Discovery, Inc., the mass media company, is once again hoping that buyers discover his Gateway, CO, ranch. This time, he and his wife, Maureen, have placed their massive property on the market with the addition of an adjoining resort. And they’ve upped the price to a whopping $279 million.

Initially, the couple had placed their West Creek Ranch home on the market in 2017 for $149 million. At that time, the pricey property made realtor.com®’s most expensive homes. But, with no buyer biting, the duo are trying again. And this time, they’re throwing a luxury resort and spa into the mix.

Now, the total offering includes the 22,000-square-foot mansion, the luxury resort with 72 rooms, and a total of 8,700 acres. The ranch also includes a grass airstrip, airplane hangar, and horse stables.

So let’s jump in the helicopter—one comes with the sale—and take a look around.

First stop, the incredible Southwest-style abode. Built in 2001, the homestead features eight bedrooms and eight baths. Along with a convenient elevator to connect all four levels, the property also comes with a helipad. Inside, find a great room, a formal dining room, breakfast room, and chef’s kitchen.

If you want a diversion from communing with nature, there are always the home theater, game room, and gym. If you’re more into books, check out the two-level stone library with a domed roof.

Outside, enjoy 3,500 square feet of covered verandas, a pool and spa, and four fountains. The property also includes a private observatory with a telescope and a 12-foot-wide rotating copper dome that opens to the stars.

And don’t worry about trying to fill the space. Furnishings come with the home, exclusive of personal items, art, and fossils.

In addition, the property includes a furnished three-bed, two-bath summer cabin, with its own garage and helipad. Plus, there’s a two-bedroom guesthouse.

As for the Gateway Canyons Resort and Spa, the destination bills itself as devoted to “curiosity adventures.” The vacation spot offers lodging, dining, educational programs, outdoor adventures, and an auto museum.

Back in the 1990s, the couple first began to pick up land in the remote area, amassing four parcels and 7,000 acres. In the mid-2000s, they built the high-end resort.

After leading the company for 32 years, Hendricks resigned from Discovery in 2014. He is now 67. He told the Wall Street Journal that he doesn’t visit the ranch much anymore, and is therefore passing it on. Instead, his focus appears to be his new project, CuriosityStream, a content service he founded that focuses on science and technology programming.

Kerry Endsley of LIV Sotheby’s International Realty holds the listing.
