From Harvey to … Irma. Shortly after Dr. Jennifer Arnold and her husband, Bill Klein, learned the home they’re selling in Houston was undamaged by Hurricane Harvey, they had to evacuate their recently purchased canal-front home in St. Petersburg, FL, due to Hurricane Irma.
The stars of the popular TLC series “The Little Couple” closed on their new Florida residence in early June for $2.1 million. They’d recently relocated from Houston, because Arnold had accepted a position at a hospital in St. Petersburg.
Arnold, who is originally from Florida, had looked forward to being near family, but didn’t anticipate having to move in with them for a bit to ride out Irma. The massive storm had forced the couple to leave their beautiful new home and hope for the best.
But if there was a home built to withstand a hurricane, the couple’s 2005-built residence in the Snell Isle neighborhood would be the one. Garages take up the majority of space on the ground floor.
Most of the living space is at least several feet above ground level, on the second or third floor. There’s also a brand-new sea wall protecting the home from the water.
Their new home is right across the street from a golf course, which, in addition to being convenient for playing golf, can absorb extra rainfall.
Besides its storm-resistant features, the 5,441-square-foot home has a number of other pluses, including six bedrooms, 4.5 baths, three stories, and an elevator.
Bonus rooms include a home office, a formal dining room, and a media room with kitchenette. The master suite also has a breakfast kitchen. There are wrought-iron railings, wood accents, and ceramic tile flooring throughout.
Outside there’s a heated saltwater pool and spa, a built-in fire pit, and lush landscaping.
As the family fled Irma, Arnold documented her experience with bad weather, gas shortages, frightened children, and ridiculous traffic on Instagram.
“I have a history, and it’s getting a little weird about hurricanes following me. My family calls me a hurricane magnet,” Arnold said in one of the videos she posted. “But I have been followed by hurricanes in Orlando, Miami, Pittsburgh, Houston, and now St. Petersburg.”
We’re hoping that by now the family is safe and back in their new home. You can find out more about them, their move, and how Klein returned to Houston to help victims of Hurricane Harvey in the Season 9 premiere and the one-hour storm recovery special that follows on TLC.
