Comedic genius Richard Pryor’s notorious 2.2-acre estate (yes, that home) is up for sale to the tune of $3 million.
Located in the Sherwood Forest area of Northridge, CA, the home is truly a compound. There are six buildings on the site, including the main home, guesthouse, and dance studio.
The Mediterranean-influenced home boasts a ton of California charm. In the main living room, the vaulted ceiling with exposed beams makes the room seem spacious, while rows of french doors looking out over the lawn bring in plenty of light. In the kitchen, an exposed brick wall has an old-world feel. And in the billiard room, a stucco fireplace keeps things cozy.
But this estate has more to offer than charm. There are tennis, tether ball, and basketball courts; an outdoor playground for the kids; a barbecue pavilion; and a putting green. But the true focal point might be the large pool with spa, waterfall, and slide.
Of course, you’d also acquire a piece of celebrity history. Pryor made this house (and the city) famous in 1980. One night on a drug binge, Pryor doused himself with booze, lit himself on fire, jumped out the window, and ran down the street before being found and rescued by the police.
This night would later inspire one of Pryor’s most famous skits, because, after all, “you can run really fast when you’re on fire.”
