Aside from being the most prolific basketball player to ever emerge from the Netherlands, retired NBA center Rik Smits has a well-known affinity for motorbikes.
A two-wheeled vehicle might come in handy to survey the 12.5-acre property being sold by the former Indiana Pacers All-Star.
His spread in Zionsville, IN, is on the market for $2.7 million. The home was built in 1998—about 10 years after the “Dunking Dutchman” made his NBA debut.
While the property is grand, the home itself—measuring nearly 11,000 square feet—isn’t anything to scoff at either.
The five-bedroom, six-bathroom home was remodeled in 2014. The kitchen features custom cabinets, a huge island, and a brushed copper sink.
The property also features an indoor basketball court (of course), exercise room, home theater, bar, wine cellar, and supersized pool.
Smits played 12 seasons in the NBA, all with the Pacers, who drafted the 7-foot-4 center No. 2 overall in 1988.
In 10 of those 12 seasons, the Pacers made runs in the playoffs, including a trip to the NBA finals in 2000, where they lost to the Los Angeles Lakers.
Smits made his lone All-Star team in the 1997-98 season—when he averaged nearly 17 points a game. His 12,871 lifetime points earned him a spot on the Pacers’ 40th Anniversary team.
