Is Angelina Jolie Ready for Her Close-Up in M Cecil B. DeMille Estate?
It appears Angelina Jolie isn’t straying far from the Hollywood-area home she shared with Brad Pitt. Vanity Fair and other sources report she’s entered into escrow on a $25 million Los Feliz estate once belonging to iconic director Cecil B. DeMille.
Built in 1913, the Beaux Arts–style mansion has plenty of room for her kids. The 11,000-square-foot home has six bedrooms and 10 bathrooms. It sits on a 2.1-acre lot with views of Los Angeles, the ocean, as well as the Griffith Park Observatory.
Many A-list stars, business leaders, and international financiers prefer to live west of U.S. Highway 101 in areas such as Beverly Hills, Bel Air, Brentwood, and Malibu. But those who appreciate historical real estate and architecture feel right at home in the foothills east of the 101, where the stars of yore settled.
Pitt, who’s also a historical architecture buff, bought a nearby historic mansion in 1994. He and Jennifer Aniston lived there until their divorce in 2005. Later, the Pitt-Jolie family lived in the home prior to the couple’s split. Jolie likely developed a fondness for the home and the neighborhood while living there.
A six-year renovation on Jolie’s new place was just finished, including the preservation of original details like the arches, library, pillars, fountains, and landscaping. New amenities, including a state-of-the-art security system, were added as well.
In addition to the main residence, there’s a pool house that’s used as a gym, a cabana by the pool, and a studio.
DeMille bought the property in 1916 for just under $28,000, and lived there while producing and directing most of his 70 features, which included “The Ten Commandments,” “Samson and Delilah,” “Cleopatra,” and “The Greatest Show on Earth.”
Charlie Chaplin reportedly lived in the house next door, and when he moved out, DeMille bought his property and connected it to his own. DeMille used the the additional space for production offices and screening rooms. DeMille lived in the home until his death, in 1959.
The current owners, novelist Richard Grossman and art consultant Lisa Lyons, sold the Chaplin property to TV producer John Wells. Other famous neighbors include Ellen Pompeo, Casey Affleck, Natalie Portman, will.i.am, Lauren Graham, and David Fincher.
In addition to her humanitarian work, Jolie’s getting ready for the release of “First They Killed My Father,” a film she directed and co-wrote. She’s also starring in the sequel to the Disney film “Maleficent.”
