Legendary actor Jeff Bridges is parting with his family compound in Montecito, CA, for $8 million.
The beloved star of “The Big Lebowski,” “True Grit,” and “Hell or High Water” has always been open about his devotion to family. He got his acting start on “Sea Hunt,” his father, Lloyd Bridges’ television show, starred with his brother, Beau, in “The Fabulous Baker Boys,” and has been married to his wife, Susan Geston, for more than 40 years.
Now he’s parting with the spectacular family retreat to spend more time at his property in Montana, according to Sally Hanseth, a family friend and the home’s listing agent.
“This is a 100-year-old compound, yet it’s completely restored,” says Hanseth. “It has so much soul and is exactly where you would imagine Jeff living.”
Sitting on a lush 4-acre lot, the main, Spanish Revival-style house was built in 1919 by the architect James Osborne Craig and has been completely restored. The interior spaces feature vaulted, beamed ceilings, five fireplaces, a new kitchen with custom cabinets, and all-original windows and doors.
The main suite includes beamed ceilings, bay windows, a fireplace, and a new bathroom with teak floors.
The property also has a private well, pool, a large poolhouse with family room, and a detached, one-bedroom guesthouse.
Best of all for fans of the Dude? A 5,000-square-foot barn where Bridges likes to perform with his band, meditate, and paint. Hanseth says it’s “the perfect man cave.”
The agent also extolled the virtues of the home’s location, “It’s back from any road, surrounded by massive estates. It’s incredibly private and quiet, with acres of walking paths through oak and redwood groves. It’s like a mindful meditation oasis away from everything.”
The compound is elegant and artful, and doesn’t strain to be cool—not unlike the actor himself. The Bridges family will no doubt miss spending time in this gorgeous place, but much like the Dude himself, we know that somehow, they will abide.
