Jesse Jackson Jr. Knocks K Off the Price of His Posh DC Townhouse
Fallen political figure Jesse Jackson Jr. has knocked $50,000 off the price of his Washington, DC, townhouse. Now he’s asking $2,645,000 for the handsome Victorian, which is located in the heart of Dupont Circle.
In July, the property had been listed for $2.695 million. Originally, in 2018, the asking price had been $2.7 million.
Built in 1921, the Federal-style home is formal and luxurious, with four stories, five bedrooms, three full baths and two half baths, in more than 3,500 square feet of living space.
Highlights include the grand entrance, with an open atrium on the first floor stretching all the way up to the fourth floor above. The top-floor sunroom, rooftop deck with Jacuzzi, and striking copper roof come together to create an unusual space.
Despite all the perks the place offers, Jackson Jr. is being forced to sell because of financial troubles. According to the Chicago Tribune, his attorney, Brendan Hammer, said that “unfortunately, circumstances now demand” the sale.
So, he’s a motivated seller. Now back in Chicago’s South Shore neighborhood, Jackson Jr. served as a Democratic member of the House of Representatives until his resignation in 2012, after accusations that he had misused campaign funds. He was later convicted, along with his former wife, Sandi Jackson, and sentenced to 30 months in prison. The couple divorced and reached a final settlement in 2018.
Jackson Jr. is the son of legendary civil rights activist and former presidential candidate Jesse Jackson.
Both men were recently back in the headlines after reportedly writing a letter asking President Donald Trump to pardon the former governor of Illinois, Rod Blagojevich, who is currently serving a 14-year sentence for trying to profit from the opportunity to fill the Illinois Senate seat vacated by President Barack Obama.
In the meantime, Jackson Jr. needs to sell his former DC family home, so that he can begin a new chapter. Perhaps the lower price will attract a buyer for the Dupont Circle power address.
