Kim Kardashian West Spills the Tea on Her One-of-a-Kind Sinks
With a hit reality TV show, numerous social media platforms, and a bevy of brands, keeping up with the Kardashians has never been so easy. But their interior design choices? That’s a different story.
Kim Kardashian West recently gave an intimate look at her Hidden Hills, CA, home while participating in Vogue’s “73 Questions” series.
And while you might’ve been blown away by the floor-to-ceiling windows and supersize tub inside the “minimal monastery,” it’s likely you’re still scratching your head over the famous family’s basin-less bathroom sinks.
Fortunately, Kardashian West took to Instagram Stories (where else?) to give her followers the lowdown on her now viral sinks.
“OK, so since everyone’s confused about our sink, I thought I’d show you guys a little tour of our bathroom,” she says.
While the reality star credits husband Kanye West, architect Axel Vervoordt, and Claudio Silvestrin with designing the ultrasleek sinks, she admits it was Silvestrin who conceived the idea of placing the sinks away from the wall—similar to a kitchen island.
“It used to be up against the wall, but we thought it’d be cooler this way,” she explains.
At first glance, the seemingly flat sink elicits serious head-scratching. On the most basic level, we want our sinks to deal with the outflow of water. Wouldn’t the water pool on the flat surface and eventually drip onto the family’s well-appointed floors?
However, the reality star goes on to show her 136 million followers the surface features a very gradual (almost imperceptible!) slope so water can flow into the sink’s rectangular drain. Because, of course, a traditional drain would cramp the bathroom’s aesthetic.
“You can put it on as high-pressured as you want, and no backsplash will come up,” Kardashian West explains.
The sink may be simple in style, but turning this design dream into a reality was easier said than done. Kardashian West explains in her Instagram story that eight prototypes of this sink were made before settling on a final style. And, in true A-list fashion, this innovative touch cost a pretty penny, as well. According to People, the sinks could have cost as much as $30,000. We’ll let that sink in.
Sure, the family’s stylish (and pricey) sink made a statement on social media, but will we start to see them in more homes?
