Kirk Douglas’ Former Palm Springs Estate Up for Grabs at .45M

The luxurious former retreat of movie legend Kirk Douglas has hit the market for $3.45 million in Palm Springs, CA. Douglas hasn’t owned the estate since 1999, but the actor definitely left his mark on the five-bedroom Mid-Century Modern.

For starters, the pool house is lined with posters of the 99-year-old actor’s many films. Even the pool is shaped in a “signature K,” according to the listing.

The house wasn’t built specifically for him—it was originally built by Donald Wexler in 1954 for Robert Howard, a hotel owner and son of Charles Howard, the man who owned the racehorse Seabiscuit. According to the Desert Sun, Douglas and his wife, Anne, bought the 4,000-square-foot home a couple of years later and added to the property, including the pool and pool house.

After about 42 years they sold the home, but the new owners haven’t changed it much. Listing agent Jim Schwietz told the Sun the current owners even kept the wallpaper as is. The home features a tennis court, a gym, multiple fireplaces, a wet bar, six full bathrooms, dual master suites, and a walled garden atrium.

And there’s one final bonus. You’ll be neighbors with Leonardo DiCaprio, who owns Dinah Shore‘s former home—another Wexler design—located directly behind this home.
