Take the glamour of Cannes and the trendiness of Venice Beach, CA, and you’ll get an idea of the flavor infused in this Venice beachfront condo on the sand. If you act fast, French writer/director Francis Veber will rent you his beloved two-story condo for $18,000 per month—or for 15,200 euros, if you prefer to keep it continental.

Veber is one of France’s most successful filmmakers, having made a number of French films that have been translated into Hollywood hits, including “The Bird Cage” (originally “La Cage aux Folles”), “Three Fugitives,” and “Dinner for Schmucks.”

He’s also a playwright, and is soon leaving Southern California to direct in Paris, which is one of the reasons he’s willing to rent out his fabulous beach paradise.

“I go so often to Paris,” says Veber, adding that he also has other homes in SoCal. It turns out that he is quite a real estate investor. His main Los Angeles home is nestled in the Bird Streets, where he claims Keanu Reeves and Leonardo DiCaprio as neighbors. He also owns a couple of other condos in the Santa Monica area.

The Venice beach house he’s put up for rent was purchased for $4.15 million in July 2013.

Built in 1992, it has three bedrooms and four baths spread over 3,029 square feet of living space. It’s has two stories, and there’s a terrace on the roof that Veber says is particularly lovely in the evening.

Floor-to-ceiling windows and sliding doors take full advantage of the sand and surf views, and wood and tile floors, and teak cabinets add to the airy, beachy vibe.

With Muscle Beach to one side, the famed Santa Monica Pier to the other, and chic restaurants like Chaya and Via Veneto just a few blocks away, you get a hint of the desirability of the location. And best of all, it’s right on the beach. “There are no streets, no noise of cars, and traffic between you and the ocean,” says Veber. “It’s really quite spectacular.”

Veber adds that the location is perfect for anyone who wants to taste the true California lifestyle. Residents can walk onto the sand literally within seconds of sauntering through the door. “You can walk or jog every morning on the beach,” he says wistfully. “If I could live there more, I would be the perfect athlete.”
