MahaNakhon accused of breaching Thai law
Bangkok’s tallest tower is at the centre of a row over Thai labor laws
Following the success of Monday evening’s lights show, Thailand’s tallest building, MahaNakhon is facing conflict over claims it breached Thai labour laws.
The complaint regards foreign architects working in Thailand.
Regulations from the Thai Ministry of Labor reserves 39 professions for Thai nationals. These professions include architecture, civil engineering and numerous traditional Thai crafts.
MahaNakhon was designed by German architect Ole Scheeren.
“These restrictions are a thing of the past,” Jedkamchorn Phromyothi, president of the Architects Council of Thailand (ACT) told Bangkok Post, explaining how with globalisation, it becomes harder to restrict professions in such a manner.
Property Report reached out to PACE, the developers behind ManaNakhon. We were told: “We have done everything, from design, construction, through to sales, and marketing, legally.”
PACE added how the company hopes the tower will put Bangkok in the spotlight for further investment and tourism.
