Academy Award winner Meryl Streep, along with her husband, sculptor Don Gummer, have snagged themselves an Oscar-worthy house. The two recently purchased a Mid-Century Modern retreat in Pasadena, CA, for $3.6 million, Variety first reported.
The A-lister joins fellow thespian Kristin Wiig in the neighborhood. Wiig reportedly just purchased the renovated Mid-Century Case Study House No. 10 for $2.96 million, located nearby, on the same prestigious street.
Streep’s SoCal retreat is located down a long, private driveway and is surrounded by a serene landscape of large trees, park-like grounds, and a pool. It includes three bedrooms, three baths, and 3,000 square feet of interior space on almost two acres.
The sparkling design from architects Whitney Smith and Wayne Williams offers panoramic views of the San Gabriel mountains and Pasadena, according to the listing description. Built in 1959, the home features many trademarks of the era, such as high ceilings, walls of glass, and views from each room, which often flow to the outdoor spaces.
Original details include terrazzo floors, the fireplace, and the windows and doors. There’s also a detached office or studio, and an extensive backyard.
The celebrated actress, 68, is ramping up for a busy awards season. She stars in the new film directed by Steven Spielberg, “The Post,” with Tom Hanks. The drama has already been tapped for multiple Golden Globe nominations, including one for Streep for best actress. She has received some 20 Academy Award nominations, more than any actor, and has won three Oscars over her illustrious career.
