Oakland A’s Reliever Ryan Madson Buys .2M Scottsdale Home
Relief pitcher Ryan Madson had a nice spring training with the Oakland Athletics, giving up no runs in seven outings. Maybe his new digs have something to do with it? The tall right-hander just bought a $2.2 million house in Scottsdale, AZ, 20 minutes from Hohokam Stadium, where the A’s train.
The 35-year-old reliever signed a three-year, $22 million deal with the A’s in December—so it figures he’d splurge on a cool desert retreat.
Built in 2013, the French Country–style house features high ceilings and a towering stone fireplace. The 6,800-square-foot, five-bedroom house has five bedrooms and five bathrooms. The chef’s kitchen is stocked with high-end appliances, a butler’s pantry, and a walk in-pantry.
Upstairs, the master bedroom has a fireplace, and the en suite bathroom has a soaking tub and a walk-in double shower. Outside there’s a covered seating area with built-in barbecue pit and fireplace, and a long pool next to a casita (also with a fireplace).
The A’s hope Madson can put out any on-field fires—in 2015, Oakland’s subpar bullpen was a big reason behind the team’s 68-94 record. Investing in Madson has its risks—he missed three full seasons from 2012 to 2014 because of Tommy John surgery. However, he bounced back with an impressive season with the World Series champion Kansas City Royals last season.
