Phillies Slugger Ryan Howard Selling His Pennsylvania Home
Philadelphia Phillies slugger Ryan Howard has taken another swing at selling his 8,900-square-foot stunner in Blue Bell, PA—this time for $2.69 million. And it looks like he’s about to knock the home out of his real estate portfolio—it’s currently listed as a pending sale after less than three weeks on the market.
Blue Bell is one of Philadelphia’s most exclusive enclaves, outside of its Main Line communities. In July 2005, it was ranked 14 on Money magazine’s list of “100 Best Places to Live in the United States.”
Howard’s home, which got a $500,000 remake last year, boasts six bedrooms, seven bathrooms, a chef’s kitchen with tricked-out butler’s panty, and a finished walkout basement with bar, wine cellar, gym, and sauna. The master bedroom suite includes an exercise room and marble fireplace.
This is the second time Howard’s tried to sell the house. A couple of years ago, it was listed for $2.95 million, according to Philly.com. The big first baseman reportedly paid $2.3 million for the property in 2009.
The 2006 MVP—who’s in his 13th season with the Phillies and the final year of a massive five-year, $125 million contract—has been fending off legal and family hassles. The three-time All-Star was accused of taking human growth hormones, which he’s denied. He was also entangled in family squabbles over his fortune, including claims by his twin brother that Ryan had unjustly terminated their consulting agreement, according to Philly.com.
