Presidential Pedigree: Buy the Martha’s Vineyard Home Where the Obamas Summered
If you’re up for summering like a president in 2018, check out this Martha’s Vineyard compound in Chilmark, MA. It’s where the Obama family vacationed in 2013, and it’s now on the market for $17.75 million. Thomas Wallace holds the listing.
While the price tag is hefty, it’s actually come down by a few million since the property first went up for sale a couple of years ago. The luxurious home reportedly belongs to Obama supporters David and Patricia Schulte, who spend most of their time in Chicago, according to Town and Country magazine.
Originally listed at $22.5 million in 2015, the 9.5-acre spread was discounted to $19.12 million this spring, before finally landing on the current ask.
In addition to meeting presidential-level standards, the ridge-top estate overlooking the Atlantic Ocean measures 7,000 square feet. It has six bedrooms, floor-to-ceiling windows, skylights, high ceilings, an airy living and dining space, and open kitchen.
Outside there’s a heated infinity pool, half-basketball court, screened porch, and terraces for dining and lounging. The secluded residence includes three private beach lots that are accessible by boat.
An apparent presidential seal of approval, a framed photo of Barack and Michelle Obama graces a table in the house. There also were rumors that the Obamas were looking to buy some land on the island off of Massachusetts. (His spokesperson denied the report.)
A getaway for past presidents (the Clintons also famously found respite on the island), Martha’s Vineyard remains a celebrity summer hot spot.
