As in any other transition period, real estate agencies in Washington, DC are steeling themselves for a wave of prospective buyers associated with the incoming US administration, Investor’s Business Daily reported.

This particular batch is more loaded than usual, however.

The first 17 nominees to US President-elect Donald Trump’s cabinet and positions of similar rank are worth a combined USD9.5 billion — richer than a third of the 126 million households in the US. Trump himself has a net worth of USD3.7 billion, the richest US president ever.

Several real estate agents in the District of Columbia are setting aside differences to accommodate this perceived influx of moneyed home-hunters who want to be close to the nation’s seat of power. Aside from the Trump Tower in New York, that is.

“Hey, I was a Hillary person,” said Tom Daley of TTR Sotheby’s International Realty, who raised more than USD100,000 for Trump’s Democratic rival Hillary Clinton. “But from a real estate perspective: Thank you very much. Come in folks. Let’s get you a nice new house.”

A broker with Washington Fine Properties reported having shown listings recently to representatives of Trump’s nominees. One of them reportedly looked at a USD15.5 million, seven-bedroom home that used to house the French ambassador.

Wilbur Ross, the billionaire private equity investor newly designated as commerce secretary, already purchased a USD12 million estate in Massachusetts Heights, The Washington Post reported earlier this month.

“If Secretary Clinton had won, it would be less of a transition,” Daley said. “A lot of her people were already here. With the Trump administration, we’re getting a whole new breed of people coming in.”
