Racing Legend Nigel Mansell Revs Up to Sell .35M Florida Mansion

It looks like legendary British racer Nigel Mansell will be motoring away from his Belleview Island waterfront estate in the near future. He recently put his four-bedroom, 7.5-bathroom home on the market for $4.35 million

If Mansell scores the asking price along Florida’s Gulf Coast, he stands to get to the checkered flag with a bit of a profit. The winner of 31 Formula One races purchased the estate, which measures just under an acre and includes a boat dock, for $3.3 million in 2013. It’s located in an exclusive gated community that includes 31 homes overlooking the Intracoastal Waterway, in the city of Belleair.

Mansell, who also captured CART and Grand Prix Masters titles over his two decades on the track, revved up the property considerably, according to listing agent Martha Thorn.

“Nigel put a tremendous amount of work in the house,” she said. “Originally, when he bought it, everything was very dark, and each bathroom was named after its color, i.e., the purple bath, the pink bath, etc. He made them all white.”

He also installed windows and french doors to improve the view of the waterway, added a deep-water dock with lifts to accommodate a large boat, and put in a heated pool with a spa and fountain, Thorn said.

The 6,136-square-foot home also features a chef’s kitchen with custom cherry cabinets, granite counters, a butler’s pantry, and a breakfast bar. The master suite is another highlight, with a fireplace, morning bar, and his-and-her bathrooms with custom closets.

With marble and wood floors, crystal chandeliers, crown molding, and plantation shutters throughout the home, Mansell and his wife, Roseanne, enjoyed an elegant resortlike lifestyle.

But even that can get old when you’re commuting from Jersey, in the United Kingdom’s Channel Islands, where the Mansells’ family home is located. There’s no word yet on whether they will purchase another property in the States.
