Retired Virginia Tech Hokies Coach Frank Beamer Selling $2.2M Blacksburg Mansion
Retired Virginia Tech Hokies Coach Frank Beamer Selling .2M Blacksburg Mansion
Longtime Virginia Tech football coach Frank Beamer retired after the 2015 season, after coaching the Hokies to 238 victories. Now the legendary Hokie boss and his wife, Cheryl, are aiming for one more big win with the sale of their incredible 8,800-square-foot mansion in Blacksburg, VA, for a cool $2.2 million.
According to the Roanoke Times, the Beamers have no intention of leaving the area. So why are they selling their custom hillside home?
Well, it turns out 8,800 square feet of living space might be a little much for two people, according to a spokesperson for the former coach.
With all of its sports-centric amenities (we see you, zero-gravity treadmill!), the house also seems better suited for a football team. It’s likely that Beamer hosted football players on a regular basis. But now that he’s hung up his headset, he probably doesn’t need all of the extras this mansion offers.
During football season, the two-story living room was probably the perfect spot to watch tape and run through plays. The full gym and indoor hot tub are ideal for strength training and relaxing after two-a-days. And that zero-gravity, hot tub treadmill was probably the single most useful piece of equipment for any Hokie to rehab an injury.
For the offseason, there’s an abundance of extras to enjoy. A game room upstairs featuring a wet bar is a great spot to unwind. There’s also a media room perfect for a feature film (or game tape). There’s also a crafts room for anyone who loves scrapbooking and sewing. Let’s not forget the hot tub, sprawling balcony, and patio complete with fire pit, koi pond, and gardens out back.
And for the links lovers? There’s a golf simulator.
The home comes with 5.5 bathrooms and five bedrooms, including the spacious master suite with a sitting area and fireplace. The master bathroom features a hammered copper soaking tub and two showers.
Beamer, 72, who coached the Virginia Tech Hokies for 29 years, currently serves as a special assistant to the Hokies athletic director and also sits on the College Football Playoff Committee.
