South by Southwest Bargains: 8 Hip Homes in Austin for Under 0K

In an annual rite of branding, boozing, and band-chasing, nearly 100,000 people invade Austin, TX, each spring for South by Southwest. The conference/festival lures tastemakers and artists from around the world—with more coming each year. Of course, some of these folks fall in love with the city and make it a mission to set up permanent residence in the capital of Texas.

For decades, the city’s mantra was “Keep Austin Weird”—which now sounds more like a frantic plea than a rallying call. With an influx of home buyers from outside the city limits, some of the town’s more peculiar edges have been worn away.

But as a service to the dreamers ready to descend on the city with hopes they’ll never have to leave, we’ve found eight homes currently for sale. Some are weirder than others, but they all have one thing in common: They’re all (relatively) cheap.
