Surprise! Nevada’s Most Expensive Home Isn’t in Las Vegas

The high rollers of Las Vegas should look north to the Lake Tahoe area to spot the most expensive home in Nevada. This $59 million spread in Zephyr Cove holds that lofty distinction.

“After 30 years in the business, it’s really the most ideal lakefront home I have seen,” says listing agent Daniel Spano. “Views of the lake are spectacular from every room. As soon as you walk in, you look right out to the lake.” But there’s a lot more than lake views that will make some prospective buyer go all-in on this mansion.

Each of the eight bedrooms in the main house has an en suite bathroom and a fireplace. A wine tasting room can hold up to 3,500 bottles. Mix in a billiard room, family room, movie theater, and 378 feet of private beachfront with a private pier, and “it’s the most perfect home to relax and enjoy Lake Tahoe,” Spano says.

Entertaining space also includes a formal dining room and chef’s kitchen with Wolfe range and Neff self-closing cabinets.

The current owners bought the property in the early 2000s with the idea of developing it for their thoroughbred horses. Opening scenes of “Bonanza” were filmed along the lake on the property, making it “one of the most well-known properties in the area,” Spano says.

The main house was built in 2004 using 450 tons of Montana stone. “The actual design has a little bit of a European feel to it, more of a mountain-Italian flair,” Spano says.

For equine-minded buyers, there’s a 15-stall horse barn on the property and fields for horses to graze. The 31 acres being sold with the home are on two parcels: the 24.3-acre parcel the main house sits on and an adjacent parcel of roughly 7 acres, Spano explains.

In addition to the 16,703-square-foot main house, there’s a 1,348-square-foot caretaker’s cottage and a 1,448-square-foot, two-bedroom guesthouse.

It’s hard to stand out in Nevada amid the over-the-top opulence Vegas is known for, but this lovely lakefront mansion over 400 miles to the north is flush with features worth gambling multimillions on.
