Take a Cue From ‘Ghostbusters’ and Live in a Firehouse

We have to admit that the firehouse featured in the original “Ghostbusters” was pretty much the coolest live-work space ever. Real-life Hook and Ladder 8, the Tribeca firehouse that’s more than a century old (old enough to actually predate the official Fire Department of New York itself) served as the setting for “Ghostbusters” HQ.

In fact, the still-working firehouse is something of a screen star. In addition to “Ghostbusters,” the brick beauty has made appearances in a “Seinfeld” episode and the movie “Hitch.” It also has a cameo role in the new, all-female reboot of the movie about four scrappy poltergeist-nabbers.

Minor spoiler alert: The new ghostbusters initially try to set up shop in a firehouse, just like their ’80s predecessors, but they can’t afford the rent. So they wind up in a space above a Chinese restaurant instead.
