The NFL life—despite the multimillion-dollar contracts and lavish homes—is often unforgiving. Unless you’re at the very top of your profession (think Tom Brady), you’ll likely be on the move at some point during your career.

That’s the case with NFL all-star cornerback Johnathan Joseph, who finally decided to put his Charlotte, NC, home up for sale, after signing with the Houston Texans six long years ago.

His cool Carolina mansion is now on the market for $4.99 million. The home includes eight bedrooms and eight full and three half-bathrooms. The property includes an interior with an elegant chandelier, intricate spiral staircase, and detailed millwork. The master suite includes a massive two-story walk-in closet—perhaps big enough to store some football pads and game-worn jerseys.

Outside, the home features a pool, basketball court, and outdoor kitchen. In all, the property spreads across a whopping 16,393 square feet, on a 1.59 acre lot.

“It’s a remarkable house,” says Nick Peters of Your Leader In Luxury Real Estate. According to Peters, Joseph put almost $4 million in renovations and improvements into the property, making the current price tag look like a relative bargain.

The veteran cornerback was born in South Carolina and played his college ball at the University of South Carolina. Drafted 24th overall in the 2006 NFL Draft by the Cincinnati Bengals, he wound up starring for the Bengals for five seasons, before departing via free agency. In 2011, he signed a five-year contract with the Houston Texans worth an estimated $48.75 million.

Joseph is leaving his home in Charlotte behind because he’s moved with his family to Houston, where he continues to star for the Texans. Although $5 million is a little steep for nonballers, Peters says you’re getting a bargain. “It’s a ton of house for the money,” says the agent, “This house is a steal and a half.”
